  Chancé has been my vocal instructor for about a year and a half. She has been instrumental in my improvement. She is everything a good teacher should be: patient, persistent,  positive, and fun.   My 3 kids and I have been with Dark Mountain Music for almost 2 years now and absolutely love it! I'm always referring friends so I figured it's about time I left a review! lol The instructor is amazing and makes each lesson engaging and enjoyable. We take singing, piano and guitar lessons. Plus most recently music production. It's great that we can add or change instruments as we go without having to change studios or companies etc.. because they teach them all here. I also like that he comes to us for lessons instead of me having to drag my kids around. Super convenient that way. I've heard from many friends who are with other companies, that their younger kids don't enjoy piano lessons cause they're forced to work on classical music, but you get to play what you love here. You pick the songs to work on. Like my boys are learning video game music and current alternative music. Which is really cool to see and hear converted to the piano.   I have been taking singing lessons with the absolutely amazing Julia for almost a year now and my experience has been wonderful! Julia is a fantastic teacher. I have grown so much in my time with her and I'm looking forwarded to continuing to push my vocal boundaries with her help. I recently started piano with her as well and I'm loving every minute. He is also a professional actor, singer, and local musician in Calgary, AB. His teaching philosophy is simple – music should be fun! Nathan firmly believes that engaging emotionally with music accelerates learning and fosters lasting connections to the artform. Beyond his teaching, Nathan is a talented artist himself. Ashley

Meet Ashley, your friendly piano and organ tutor at Dark Mountain Music. Ashley has had an incredible 18-year journey playing the piano and 9 years crafting her skills on the organ. She proudly holds both the 8th and 9th certificates from the Royal Conservatory of Music (RCM) and is currently working towards the coveted Level 10 RCM. Imagine earning not one, not two, but four organ scholarships from the Royal Canadian College of Organists (RCCO)—Ashley's got the keys to both versatility and musical mastery. Currently immersed in the world of organ studies at Mount Royal University, she dreams of scoring a Bachelor of Music at the University of Calgary. For the past 8 years, Ashley has been passing on her love for music through teaching. It's not just about hitting the right notes; she wants her students to catch the music bug and let it become a lifelong melody in their hearts.

Christian

With a rich history spanning over two decades in the music scene, Christian emerges as a genuinely skilled and adaptable guitar guru. Lok Yiu

Lok Yiu is a seasoned piano teacher in Calgary, began her piano journey at age five, achieving ABRSM Grade 8 by twelve. Alex initiated his musical odyssey at the age of ten and furthered his skills through studies at the National Music Academy of Ukraine. He expanded his musical prowess by engaging with international performing and recording artists through lessons and master classes. Over the course of 25 years, Alex has continually found joy in music creation, fuelled by praise from global artists, audiences, and students. This acclaim, alongside his fulfilling musical career, has granted him a rich and satisfying life. He eagerly anticipates the opportunity to share his unwavering passion for music with his students.

Ben

Ben, an avid guitarist since age 10, has spent the last decade performing as a solo artist and with various bands, covering a wide repertoire of songs and crafting original music. Notably, his Pop/Rock band, Saint Loe, achieved recognition with their single 'Faking Love' earning the title of BBC Radio Shropshire's 'Song of the Month.' In 2018, Ben graduated with First Class Honours in Commercial Music and has since been dedicated to sharing his passion by teaching the guitar. His mission is to ensure a positive and fulfilling musical journey for every student, catering to all ages and abilities.

Kearstin

As an independent folk artist in Calgary's music scene, Kearstin is well equipped in both the knowledge and skills to help you achieve your musical goals and discover joy in the craftsmanship of the guitar. Kearstin strives to create a welcoming and encouraging environment for her students, helping them to not only master technical skills but also to find their own voice and style on the guitar. Her lessons are tailored to each student's individual needs and goals, ensuring a personalized and enriching learning experience. In addition to guitar, Kearstin shares an equal passion for songwriting and has released several of her original songs. Kearstin hopes to instill her passion for music into her students creating a lifelong appreciation for guitar.

Trevor

A multifaceted musician, Trevor has a diverse background in piano, composition and oboe. Trevor holds a Master’s degree in oboe performance from The Juilliard School and has worked as a piano instructor, accompanist and organist throughout his musical career. Outside of piano, Trevor has also held several orchestral positions including principal oboe of the Great Falls Symphony and second oboe of the Tallahassee Symphony. As a teacher, Trevor aims to give high-level instruction that not only inspires the student, but also makes learning music enjoyable. With his strong background in music theory, Trevor emphasizes understanding music through teaching harmony and counterpoint and encourages his students to learn through composition and improvisation. Ultimately Trevor’s goal with every student is to enrich his/her appreciation of music and develop a life-long love for music.
